We are asked a broad range of questions from our customers on a day to day basis. Many of them are the same so we thought we'd share them here and hope they may be of benefit.

What is infrared?
Infrared is electromagnetic radiation that has a longer wavelength than visible light. The wavelengths are between 700nm and 1mm.The infrared spectrum can be divided further into short wave, medium wave and long wave IR radiation.

Why should I use Infrared heaters?
Infrared fittings are very efficient; they heat their surrounding by using the same method as the sun. Infrared heat is not affected by draughts so you still feel the warmth on a windy day.

Is IR Dangerous?
A common question! Many people fear that exposure to IR radiation could result in cancer. It is UVB emitted from the sun that can cause cancer. Our infrared lamps produce no UVB and so are not dangerous.

How Many Heaters will I need?
This will depend on your individual requirements; however, we do have a tool that allows you to calculate how many heaters you require based on the area of the room and the type of work being carried out. Click here for our guide

What is the running cost of your lamps?
It costs approximately 10p/kW hour to run an infrared lamp, but infrared heaters are far more efficient than heaters that rely on convection heat. (Fan heaters, hot air blowers)

Do you manufacture 110v fittings?
Most of our models are available in 100/120v.

Are you fittings water-proof?
We do carry a range exclusively for outdoor use, which are totally water and weather-proof. See model numbers HLO12/15 and The HLW15 fitting.

I’d like your fittings but can not decide how many I need and where to locate them can you help?
Yes, we are able to specify heating schemes and if you have particular requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone and discuss your needs with one of our technical experts.

Do you supply spare lamps for your fittings?
Certainly. We have a page here dedicated to our spare lamps range. If you cannot find what you are looking for, simply contact us and we will do our best to supply you with the lamp(s) that you require.

Do you supply lamps for other manufactures fittings?
Yes we can supply almost any Infrared lamp you require both for domestic and industrial applications.

If we use timers with the heaters will it reduce the life of the lamps?

There is not one simple answer but yes the lamps life will shorten slightly but we still guarantee the same lamp life. If the lamps are never switched off and not subject to any shocks they will last well in excess of stated life.

If we use dimmers with the heaters will it reduce the life of the lamps?

No the lamps life should actually increase as it will not be lit at full voltage all the time also the lamp is subjected to a soft start.
